Reishi in History

History & Fun Facts

Reishi is our North Star mushroom at Mushroom Wellness, which is why you’ll find it in every product we offer. Reishi has a long history of use in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbalism – over 2,000 years! It was even embroidered on the cloaks of ancient emperors.

Reishi motifs are also used in Taoist art and often decorate women’s accessories, carvings, furniture, and paintings. This sacred fungus has traditionally been referred to as the “mushroom of immortality” as it is said to have grown off the coast of China in the home of the ancient immortals on the “three isles of the blessed”.*

How It Grows

Often found at the base of living or dead deciduous trees and around stumps, this reddish-brown shelf mushroom can be found in forested areas all over the world.

Our Reishi cultures are inoculated on California-grown organic brown rice to cultivate the mycelial biomass and the fruiting bodies are grown on Alder wood with brown rice. We cultivate this bracket fungus in our indoor facility in Washington, at the edge of the Olympic Mountain range.

Beta Glucans

We’re Big on Beta-Glucans

Did you know beta-glucans are the primary beneficial constituents in mushrooms? It’s true! And one of the reasons why we include Reishi in all our Mushroom Wellness products is because it’s so high in beta-glucans.

Each serving of Reishi capsules offers a verified minimum 10% or 100 mg of beta-glucans.
