Meet Megan Sprague

Herbalist & Product Specialist

Purpose

I view herbalism as a bridge between the land and people. I feel honored to support individuals in reconnecting with a sense of wholeness through inviting more plants into their everyday lives.

Specialty

My primary herbal specialty draws on the rich tradition of Western herbalism in Northern California where I live, interweaving aspects of folk herbalism and flower essences. I love incorporating aspects of Ecopsychology which examines the interrelationship between the Earth and psyche and often look to the plants as markers of the change of seasons and for support in challenging times.

Training

I completed three years of Western Herbalism training at the California School of Herbal Studies and previously worked as an herbal medicine maker for an integrative medical clinic. I am currently a doctoral student studying to become a licensed Clinical Psychologist with an emphasis in Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. My doctoral research explores the impact of traditional Irish-Celtic land-based practices on healing generational trauma in adults of the Irish diaspora. Outside my formal academic studies, I have dedicated over two years of training and am initiated as a Mesa carrier in the traditional Andean Wisdom teachings of Q’eros Nation under the ongoing mentorship of Pampamesayok wisdom keeper Don Agustín Machacca Flores. I am grateful to witness the Q'eros' example of what it truly means to live in right relationship with the land and all her inhabitants.

Motivation

I believe herbs and the land are innate aspects to who we are as people. In my work at Herb Pharm, I hope to empower people to remember this part of our shared becoming.

First Herb Memory

In my late teens, my 74-year old Ecuadorian homestay mother offered me herbal teas with breakfast, lunch and dinner. She swore by Oregano tea for a broken heart!
