Education You Can Trust

Ed Smith giving a farm tour experiential classroom training Herb Pharm Work/Study Interns

An important part of Herb Pharm’s mission is educating people on the safe and effective use of medicinal herbs, and inspiring a love for plants, and a respect for nature and the environment.

Throughout the year, Herb Pharm representatives conduct a variety of educational events that are open to the public. These can include guided “Herb Walks” where we lead you through botanical gardens or other natural settings and discuss the role of medicinal plants indigenous to that area. They may also include educational lectures where the public is invited to join us for a presentation on a particular health concern and the application of medicinal herbs.

Lastly, if you ever make the pilgrimage to southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley (and why wouldn’t you?) you can join us for regularly scheduled public tours of our 85-acre certified organic farm, our Educational Garden where we propagate at-risk and endangered plant species, and our herbal extraction facility.

Check our Events Calendar for public tour dates and educational events scheduled in your area.

Herbaculture Intern Program: Training Tomorrow's Herbalists
Herb Pharm offers an internationally renowned work/study intern program on our organic herb farm. This is an intensive 2-month program that includes on-the-job farm work/training, and attending a series of classes, workshops and field trips covering subjects like organic cultivation of herbs, botany and plant identification, medicinal herb chemistry, herbal medicine making, and more. For more information visit our Herbaculture Intern Program page.

Educational Events on our Farm
Every two years, Herb Pharm hosts United Plant Savers’ (UpS) Planting the Future Conference at our farm in southern Oregon. This benefit conference convenes plant lovers from all over the US and Canada for an energized, information-filled day of herb classes, herb walks, and joining together to celebrate the power and spirit of herbal medicine.

The 2009 conference raised $16,000 for UpS and its work in protecting wild medicinal plants in the US and Canada. Attendees were treated to educational lectures from 16 renowned herbal teachers who donated their time and travel expenses to the conference.

The next Planting the Future Conference will be held in 2011. Check back for dates and further details, or visit the United Plant Savers website.
